in a different era . . . or part of the world

A thought crossed my mind.  If my family was living in an era gone by or in a different part of the world today this past week would have been scary.

We have a warm home, a humidifier, fresh water, and healthy food.  All of those things, by God's grace, have aided in our fight with fevers and coughs.

I've pretty much been in bed since Tuesday.  Our three year old (Baby Blue) has spent much of her time next to me.  The others have done pretty well and thankfully Tex (or Frodo Gandalf as Jill likes to call him) has been a trooper (recently being the recipient of a humidified room . . . he made it to almost a year old before getting something this nasty).

When I think back at this week I am thankful to God for the day and age we live in and our location.  I think about "Pride and Prejudice"-type-times and how this would have been so frightening and quite possibly a week of mourning as I'm not sure how a family with 5 small children in the home (or their mother struggling with her asthma in the midst of her own illness) would have managed to keep them all from being at death's door.  Same as in other parts of our present day world.  Places where no clean water is even available much less food or the know-how to nurse an illness.

I am humbled.

We just finished studying the Middle Ages where people were VERY ignorant about illness. BUT....when the plague took hold, it set a whole class of people free. The feudal system had to come to an end. In Roman Times, the plague allowed Christians to go in and minister to unbelievers, saving how many hundreds from eternal death, if not physical. AND....we have 9 families in our church who are now loving on 16 children....THEIR 16 children from Haiti....that were not expected to be home for another 2 years at least because God literally rocked the foundation of that government! And you, have had precious moments with a three year old. I love how God wastes nothing! Now....that said....it STINKS being that sick, so I am praying that all your blessing in this is well received and that God will now move onto his healing in your family!!!! :)

I think the most important to reason for studying history is getting to see God's goodness (and hopefully learning from human mistakes). How fun you guys got to learn what you did (and shared some with me!).

It is amazing to see the beauty the Lord brings from the ashes. How precious and wonderful for those families to be together now! I pray for their adjustments. I pray that the Lord will protect those children from fear and helps them to accept their new families. Can you imagine what in the world those precious children must be going through? The trauma of a horrendous earthquake and then being taken from what they've known to a new home and world. Wow. I pray for God's grace and mercy on those precious children (and their new families).

Thank you for praying for our family. Much appreciated! And I LOVE how you worded: " . . . I am praying that all your blessing in this is well received , , ," A great perspective to have!
